Annual General Meeting - June 11, 2022

At our Annual General Meeting the Full membership voted to elect Dr. Dominique Sylvestre (FR), replacing Dr. med Frank Mueller (DE), who completed his second term.  Dr. Kendi Hensel (US) was appointed to the allocated seat for the American Osteopathic Association and replaces Dr. William Burke (US) who completed his term as Immediate Past President.  Maurice Cheng (UK) was re-appointed for a second term to the allocated seat held by the Institute of Osteopathy.

Annual General Meeting was held virtually on May 19, 2021.

During this meeting elections for the 2020-expired and 2021 expiring Board seats were held.  The following individuals were elected or re-elected to the Board:

2020 seats, with terms expiring in 2023:

2021 seats, with terms expiring in 2024:

Amendments to the bylaws were also presented.  Each proposed amendment was voted upon individually and passed unanimously, with the exception of Clause 3.4.11. (7;2) and Clause 3.1 (8:1).  A summary of the bylaws changes can be found here.

2016 - United States


September 18-20, 2016

Held in conjunction with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA – Full Member), the program expanded on four osteopathic pillars — Education, Regulation, Research, and Association Leadership/Membership — while also looking at the future of the global osteopathic profession. The OIA program featured a diverse and dynamic group of speakers and moderators to focus on the state of osteopathic medicine and osteopathy in various countries while globally uniting osteopathic physicians and osteopaths. We want to thank all members that attended our annual conference! A diverse and dynamic group of speakers and moderators helped deliver captivating content and render important decisions.

AGM and Board Transition

At our Anaheim AGM, the full membership voted to elect Mr. Charles Hunt to chair from his previous position as Vice-Chair. Dr. Alain Wurtz stepped down from the board for personal reasons and Dr. Frank Mueller was voted in as his successor. Jane Carreiro moved from her position as Chair to the position of Past Chair, in keeping with new regulations on board composition. All office terms are two years. 2015 - Canada


September 25-27, 2015

Montreal, Quebec, Canada Held in conjunction with Osteopathie Quebec (Partner Member)

Montreal Conference a Success

We want to thank all members that attended our annual conference! There were a total of 81 attendees, representing 31 organizations from 15 countries. We had a diverse and dynamic group of speakers and moderators who helped make the conference a success.

AGM and Board Transition

At our Montreal AGM, the Full membership voted to re-elect Dr William Burke by acclamation and Antony Nicholas (Australia Osteopathy) for his first term on the Board. Dr Burke filled the allocated seat for the largest osteopathic organisation, beginning his second term. Michael Mulholland-Licht rotated off the Board following the completion of his second term. The Board of Directors held elections for officer positions, with Charles Hunt re-elected as Vice-Chair and Dr Burke re-elected as Secretary-Treasurer. All office terms are two years.

2014 - United Kingdom


 October, 3-5 2014

London, England Held in conjunction with the Institute of Osteopathy (formerly the British Osteopathic Association) – The Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel, Windsor Road, Egham, Surrey The OIA Board of Directors met ahead of the OIA-IO Conference in London. The meeting focused on a strategic planning session and final preparations for the London Conference. The overall meeting saw nearly 200 attendees from five continents come together in one location!

AGM and Board Transition

At the London AGM, the Full membership re-elected Dr. Jane Carreiro to her second term on the Board and Dr. John Gimpel to his first. Dr. Karen Nichols filled the allocated seat for the largest osteopathic organisation, beginning her second term. Peter Ajluni rotated off the Board and Marina Urquhart-Pullen stepped down from the Board. Stephen Hartshorn from the iO was voted by the Board of Directors to fill that vacancy, until the Full membership can vote on it at the Montreal AGM. The Board of Directors held elections for officer positions, with Jane Carreiro elected Chair, Charles Hunt elected Vice-chair and William Burke elected Secretary-Treasurer. All office terms are two years.

Austin, Texas, USA Thank you to our members, Board of Directors, and all OIA and AAOE attendees who came to Austin for our Annual Conference and General Meeting, “Osteopathy: A Global Presence,” 11-12 January, it was a great success! Sunday’s programme was approved for 6.5 hours of 1-A CME by the American Osteopathic Association.

2012 - France


September 22-23, 2012

The OIA Annual General Meeting and Educational and Regulators’ Forum was held 22-23 September in Paris, France. The OIA partnered with The Syndicat National de l’Enseignement Superieru en Osteopathie (SNESO), chaired by Roger Caporossi and The Syndicat Francais Des Osteopathes (SFDO), chaired by Philippe Sterlingot to present ?Osteopathic Teaching: Competencies, Education, Evaluation.” Registration for the conference totaled 111 attendees that included registrants, Board members, speakers, leadership and staff. The Board would like to thank all our members who attended for their support. Annual General Meeting At this meeting, the Full membership ratified five organizational members, re-elected one sitting Board member and elected two new members to the Board. All board seats are three-year terms. Board of Director Elections:

  • William Burke, DO (US), was nominated by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA-US), and was elected by acclamation to his first term on the Board. Dr Burke is a member of the AOA-US Board of Trustees.
  • Charles Hunt, DO (UK), was nominated by the British Osteopathic Association (BOA) and the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), from the British School of Osteopathy (BSO), where he serves as Principal and Chief Executive. This is his first term.
  • Michael Mulholland-Licht, DO (AU) was re-elected to the Board. Mr Mulholland-Licht was nominated by the Australian Osteopathic Association (AOA-AU).

The new Board of Directors met and elected Mr. Mulholland-Licht as chair of the Board; Jane Carreiro, DO (US), as Vice-chair; and Peter Ajluni, DO (US), was re-elected secretary-treasurer. All officer terms are two years. Ratified Member Organisations

Proposed OIA Bylaws Changes Members voted to accept the changes to the OIA bylaws. The updated bylaws are available online. OIA Board Meeting and Roundtable Discussion

24-25 March Louisville, Kentucky, USA The OIA Board met at the American Academy of Osteopathy’s (AAO) 75th Anniversary Convocation The Board approved two new Partner members: the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners (AAOE) and the Osteopathic School of Buenos Aires (EOBA).

  • The Board heard reports on the profession from members in Belgium, Brasil, France, Ireland, Italy, the U.K. and the U.S.
  • The membership in attendance participated in an open forum on the Status Report on Osteopathy. Membership provided, via email and discussion, comments on the Stage 1 document, which is nearly complete. There was also discussion of the Stage 2 document, which will be done via survey in mid-2012.
